Year 5Mr Oliver and Mrs Donkin
Hello and welcome to class 5RO!
We are taught by Mr Oliver, Mrs Graham, Mrs Donkin and Mrs Storey. There are many different personalities and talents amongst us but we are united by our excitement for the year to come! Our topics this term are The Terrible Tudors and Properties and Changes of Materials.
We aim to create happy memories as we continue our school adventure together. Please join us as we keep you informed about our learning.
We are thoroughly enjoying our science topic on Materials and their Properties. So far, we have been learning about some of the more difficult properties, such as permeability, and reminding ourselves that not all metals are magnetic. In our test we found only three...
Years 4 and 5 had a fantastic, fun-filled afternoon at Hetton School where we had a taster of a variety of inflatable activities. We climbed, bounced, balanced, jumped, aimed…you name it, we did it!
As part of our WOW week in Year 4, we invited our family members in to school to work alongside us to design our own World Cup football strips. Some of us chose to base our designs on England, some on the teams we picked in our class sweep and some on ourselves. We think they have turned out great! C’mon England!
Year 4 had a fun-filled morning playing bubble football as part of our topic on the World Cup. We rolled, bounced, flipped…some of us spent most of the games upside down! Our smiles, giggles and hair showed how much we enjoyed ourselves!
As part of our topic on Russia, we have been studying the countries taking part in the World Cup. Today we used atlases to identify different countries and found physical features of each one.
What a fantastic trip! Year 4 visited a Gurdwara in Sunderland to find out all about how Sikhs worship. We had great fun seeing objects such as the Guru Granth Sahib and can’t wait to write about what we have learnt later this week.
Some of Year 4 have completed their designs for the Tall Ships competition. These pictures are of our prototypes which we are taking home but our final designs have already been sent off ready to be judged. Hopefully one of our amazing nautical themed designs is a winner!
This week in Year 4, we have been learning about Roman Gods and Goddesses. We thought about each God’s personality and characteristics to decide on a score out of 10 for power, skills, importance and weapons. We then had fun designing our own top trumps cards and playing against each other!
Some of Year 4 began their project on the ‘Tall Ships’ this week. We began by drawing images of ships and designing our own vessels using clay. Keep popping back to see our progress over the coming weeks.
To finish off our ‘Wow Week’ on the Romans, we created our own pizzas and enjoyed eating them along with some Italian snacks. Yummy!
Parents and relatives came into Year 4 today to hear all about our class trip to Arbeia Roman Fort. We then had fun together creating Roman mosaics and making clay pots and amulets. A big thank you to everyone who came along; we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Look out for your artwork up in the school hall soon.
