Year 4Mrs Wardle, Mrs Plant, Mr Plant
Welcome to Year 4!
Hello! Year 4 is made up of 33 children and our teacher is Mrs Wardle. This term we are looking forward to learning all about the Ancient Greeks, including their daily life, the Ancient Olympics, life as a Greek child and tasting some traditional Greek food. We have many sporting events coming up this year, beginning with a hockey tournament next month. Keep popping back to our class page to stay up to date with our journey through Year 4.
We’ve been using our ‘rapid recall’ boards to work on our mental maths skills. We are super proud of our work!
We are writing our myths! After reading Ancient Greek myths such as Icarus, King Midas and the Golden Touch, Medusa and the Quest of Perseus and Orpheus and Eurydice, we’ve started to write our own myths including mythical creatures, magical objects, heroes and heroines and gods and goddesses. Mrs Wardle can’t wait to read them.
We have been using our multimedia skills to work in pairs and create powerpoints based on the Ancient Greeks. We included facts including the Olympics, Gods and Goddesses, food, school and clothes. Finally, we got up in front of all our peers and presented them to the class.
This week in Year 4, we have been writing spooking settings using our 5 senses, alliteration, metaphors, similes and personification to create imagery in our work. The results were spine-tingling.
Year 4 have been working on our athletics skills and trying to beat our own best scores. Among us, we have some amazing long jumpers, balancers, throwers, aimers and hurdlers!
We have started circuit training in PE to get our blood pumping and our bodies working. Mrs Wardle was so impressed with us this week as we didn’t give up and kept going through all of the different stations….with some funny facial expressions!
This week in Year 4, we have been designing our own Greek pots using scratch art. We looked at the traditional Greek designs on their pottery and created our own based on these. We think they look fab!
Year 4 have been finding out about life as an Ancient Greek child. We used books and the internet to make notes and shared them with each other in preparation for our writing this week, where we will be writing a comparison about life as a child nowadays compared to living in Ancient Greece.
We have been developing our skills with the tennis coach on a Friday afternoon. Wimbledon here we come!
Some of our Year 3 and 4 children had lots of fun taking part in a tri-golf competition with lots of other local schools. We showed off our chipping and putting skills and demonstrated super accuracy. Mrs Wardle and Mrs Donkin had a fantastic time with us!
We had some ‘egg-cellent’ entries for our Easter egg competition this year. Here are our proud winners with their designs. Well done to everyone who joined in the fun!
Here are our winners from each class for the best dressed book character for World Book Day! They each got to choose a book of their choice from the book fair. Well done!
